SU Schools Ministry

Where your passion is for young people and mission in a school context, SU Schools ministry can help your church or group develop tailored programs that meet a specific need of the school community and bring the love of Jesus into the life of the school. It is our vision that all WA Schools ministry include relational and ongoing activities that provide opportunity for primary and secondary school students to experience transformation in relationship with a follower of Jesus.

SU assists the local church or group to bring together volunteers in the local area who are committed to and have a passion for ministry in schools. We will help you develop a strategy and implement a range of programs that facilitate relationships with students and allow you to build community and live out the Kingdom of God in the school.

Program Ideas

As you can see, there are limitless possibilities, however, here are a few program ideas and resources are available for you to use through SU Schools ministry.

CHIC (Choices, Hopes, Identity & Connection)

CHIC is a program that is designed address some of the issues that young girls face in today’s culture in a constructive and safe environment. It is to provide a space where girls can share their thoughts and emotions about themselves and life in general. CHIC aims to develop the girl’s awareness of themselves, their behaviour and the impact of personal choice and consequences in their lives.

Students will gain practical skills such as:

Relating to others Body image
Listening Health and hygiene
Clarify some future hopes Goal setting
Conflict resolution Team work
Creative expression Ability to identify own strengths

CHIC provides a wonderfully hands and on and experiential program that promotes leader and student interaction. Leaders are encouraged to laugh with students, support and listen to them, and ultimately make them feel valued. Girl’s lives will be impacted!

Activities run under the banner of Scripture Union, so issues of identity and profile can be covered. For churches, joining together under the banner of SU allows them to focus on the things that unite and takes away issues of individual church’s ownership. Through administrative and management support, SU hopes to take care of insurance, legal and management issues, freeing groups to focus on mission and community transformation and allowing them to ‘get on with it’, knowing they have back-up.

The relationship with SU is one of mutual benefit. Programs are autonomous in their decision making, within the ethos, values and guidelines of SU. We do not seek to control programs and activities, whilst providing them with accountability through being part of a wider movement, safety and care standards and relationship with an experienced staff-person.

Training

SU can help train and equip your group for the mission activities you are involved in. You can access the great training activities run through SU, like our Training Day and leadership camps, the Forge intensives and internship, or we will come and tailor training to your needs.

Holistic schools ministry

SU’s model of schools ministry is one of holistic engagement, bringing the love of God into the life and fabric of the school. Mixing a range of activities tailored to the schools needs, you can offer young people an encounter with God in a range of ways. You can also combine school-based activities with other programs, offering the opportunity for those involved in schools ministry, like chaplains, to more intentionally minister to young people outside of the school context. Programs are developed in partnership, so as to reflect local needs and styles and work in with the ongoing activities.
