Interns are treated the same as the members of the staff
team in terms of appointment and supervision procedures as
well as the expectations and benefits that come with being
employed in a ministry position.
Length of contract
The preferred time period for most internships is one
calendar year, with commencement in mid-January. The minimum
commitment is one semester (6 months), and flexible start
dates are available. This is not the case for the Performing
Arts Department where a full calendar year is required.
Extension of contract to a second year is possible.
Our preference is for full-time appointment (except
Associate Performers - see below). In the case of part-time
appointment, the total full-time equivalent should be at least
6 months.
Interns who undertake a Certificate will need to complete
a full year with at least 3 days per week commitment.
Financial Arrangements
Interns do not receive a salary. A modest honorarium can
be paid in situations where sufficient financial support has
been provided to cover the overhead costs to SU and the course
fees for undertaking a certificate, if applicable. Our target
is to provide interns with approximately $70.00 per week
honorarium to assist with living expenses, but this is
entirely dependent on the financial support raised.
Students enrolled in a Certificate may be eligible for
Austudy - see the Student Handbook.
We raise team support to cover the cost involved with
taking on Interns. Once accepted for appointment, Interns are
asked to provide a list of people that we can write to seeking
financial and prayer support. As with all staff positions,
appointed Interns are not permitted to formally commence
employment until team support is in place. Interns write to
their team supporters each month, sharing experiences and
providing prayer material.
We reimburse Interns for vehicle use (when required), phone
calls and similar business expenses. A modest allowance is paid
for nights away (e.g. on camps).
