As we consider the ministry style of SU, 4 major themes have been identified, each of which has a linked secondary theme. The list below has the themes grouped in order ie themes 1 to 4 and then the secondary list 5 to 8. The secondary list is linked to the related major theme.

  1. Doing God's work and seeing results
Being SU is more about ministry than meetings. We understand that it is God.s work and we see the need to connect with God through the Bible and prayer if we are to work well - we strive for excellence but not perfection.
  2. Sustained adaptability
We remain committed to the long haul and seeing God at work over time. As we do this, we highly value time for reflection, continually using processes to review and reflect. Both individually and corporately, we read the winds of change and then adapt accordingly.
  3. Being together; working in teams
A hallmark of SU is the use of ministering communities that bring people together, to work together . people with a variety of gifts.
  4. Structural support of people in ministry
The structures of SU are focused on supporting people in a ministry to which they sense that they are called by God. These structures provide a framework of connectedness with history, with others of like mind and with leaders having a servant heart.
  5. Being together; investing in people.s lives
We follow in the footsteps of Jesus in building purposeful relationships that are aimed at developing the potential of others - maybe even taking risks with some who are entrusted with leadership. People get involved in SU, because they are invited - by others who care and who see their potential.
  6. Discovery, exploration, challenge
We observe that being in SU brings personal growth for us and others as we minister. We find regular opportunities to step out, to be stretched and learn in a supportive environment. This commitment to our own learning and development is matched by SU and of course by God . we understand that He has not finished with us.
  7. Being together; enjoying each other
We value friendships for their own sakes. These relationships cross the boundaries of age, gender, church denomination and are the 'glue' of SU.
  8. Having good fun
We sometimes describe ourselves as 'life affirming'. We believe that alongside the serious, the sad and the struggles of life, needs to sit a balance of fun and enjoyment. We stay involved in the SU movement because we have a lot of good fun together
